Preface
“Discovering and researching Emilie Mayer’s hitherto unpublished manuscripts is for me the exciting answer to the question of the “missing link” in the chamber music repertoire and the musical history of the 19th century.
This piano trio of Emilie Mayer’s is one such discovery. Eleven of her works of piano chamber music – three sonatas for violin and piano, four for cello and piano, and four piano trios – have fallen into my hands. Until now the music has not appeared in print and there have certainly been no recordings. Following my discovery, on the basis of these manuscripts the female violinist Łucja Madziar, the cellist Johannes Krebs and I, aka “Klaviertrio Hannover”, recorded the D minor (fue 10350), E flat major (fue 10346) and A minor (fue 10348) piano trios in cooperation with the radio station NDR Kultur in order to return them to the chamber music repertoire.
