24 short, interconnected preludes suitable for teaching and for recitals, either whole or in selected groups. These virtuosic, contrasting preludes are meant as homages to Chopin, Scrjabin, Bartok, Hindemith and others, expressed in an individual contemporary idiom.
R. Schonthal reacted to an article by the pianist for contemporary music, Ursula Oppens, who complained that good piano music was not being written for teaching with avantgarde techniques.
