As the first major industry gathering of the year, the Leipzig Book Fair is regarded as an important source of inspiration for the book market with the presentation of new releases in the spring. Two major anniversaries are celebrated: The Leipzig Book Fair Prize is awarded for the 20th time and the Manga-Comic-Con celebrates its tenth anniversary. This year, the Netherlands and the Belgian region of Flanders are joint guest countries at the Leipzig Book Fair. They presented themselves under the motto “Everything but flat!” Classical readings and lectures are planned, as well as literature with music and installations. German-Dutch-Flemish discussions, exchanges of letters and podcasts are to be given a stage. At the Leipzig Book Fair, visitors can explore the literary offerings of exhibitors from over 40 countries and experience authors live at events. Unlike the Frankfurt Book Fair, for example, the Leipzig Book Fair is a public fair.

Diabelli recomposed at the Music Café at the Leipzig Book Fair with Claudia Bigos and Antonia Krödel

2024-01-31T12:02:08+01:0030. January 2024|Current Posts|

On March 21, 2024 at 1 p.m., Furore Verlag cordially invites you to a presentation with music for “Diabelli Recomposed” in the Music Café at the Leipzig Book Fair.
Musicologist and editor Claudia Bigos and music editor Antonia Krödel will present the outstanding volume of sheet music for the “Diabelli Recomposed” project, which has been published by Furore Verlag – “a great success”, according to the nmz.
The volume not only contains a rich collection of piano variations, but also an informative foreword and interesting details about the composers and their works.
The presentation offers a deep insight into this remarkable project and its genesis.
200 years ago, Anton Diabelli asked 50 composers to each write a variation on a waltz theme he had written – not a single female composer was among the composers. To mark the anniversary, musicologist Claudia Bigos came up with the idea for “Diabelli Recomposed”. She asked women composers from around the world to write their own variation on the Diabelli waltz theme in their own style. The impressive sheet music edition has now been published on high-quality paper and in a hardcover by Furore Verlag.
The exclusive sheet music edition is available  under the edition number fue …

Concertgebouw Orchestra with Klaus Mäkelä performs works by Fanny Hensel

2024-01-15T15:41:01+01:0015. January 2024|Current Posts|

On December 20 and 21, 2023 at 8:15 pm, the work “Hero and Leander” by Fanny Hensel, née Mendelssohn, will be performed by the Concertgebouw Orchestra under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä at Het Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Sporanist Chen Reiss will interpret the “dramatic scene” “Hero and Leander” by Fanny Hensel, a composer whose music is now posthumously emerging from the shadow of her famous brother Felix Mendelssohn. In fact, this will be the first time that the Concertgebouw Orchestra has performed one of her works; attention for her opulent compositional style is therefore long overdue. “We wanted to create a composition with the works of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn,” says Klaus Mäkelä.
Another concert date is on Friday, December 22 at 7 p.m. in the Kölner Philharmonie in Cologne.

Further information & tickets can be found on the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s website.

Ruth Schonthal 100th birthday 2024

2024-01-15T15:40:12+01:0015. January 2024|Current Posts, News|

We are delighted to be celebrating the 100th birthday of German-American composer Ruth Schonthal this year. Her life and career are characterized by extraordinary talent, overcoming adversity and artistic innovation.
Ruth Schonthal was born in Hamburg on June 24, 2924. She showed her extraordinary talent at the age of five and was celebrated as a child prodigy in Berlin in the 1930s. She began her musical education at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin, where she studied piano, music theory and composition until she was expelled by the National Socialists in 1935 at the age of nine due to her Jewish origins.
Her emigration initially took her to Stockholm, where she enrolled at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and published her first composition, the Sonatina for piano, in 1940. Due to the uncertain political situation, she emigrated with her family to Mexico in 1941. There she studied composition with Manuel María Ponce and achieved great success both as a composer and as a pianist. Her path eventually led her to New Haven, USA, where she studied with Paul Hindemith at Yale University from 1946 to 1948.

After graduating, Schonthal initially earned her living by composing advertising jingles and pop songs. As her success …

Happy Birthday Fanny!

2023-11-17T09:30:18+01:0017. November 2023|Current Posts|

Today we commemorate a remarkable woman in music history – Fanny Hensel, born on November 14. She was a 19th century German composer and pianist whose talent and influence were often overshadowed by her famous brother Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Fanny Hensel was born into a family in which music played an important role. With an incredible talent and passion for music, she began composing at an early age. Although social norms often denied women access to the professional music world, Fanny continued her artistic journey and created an impressive collection of piano pieces, songs and chamber music.

Fanny Hensel’s influence extends far beyond her time, and today her works are performed worldwide.

On Fanny Hensel’s birthday, we celebrate her pioneering spirit as a woman in the 19th century music world. Happy birthday, Fanny Hensel!

From November 10 to 12, 2023, the 2nd Women Composers’ Meeting took place in Nuremberg, which focused on the creativity and diversity of outstanding women composers from all over the world. Furore Verlag was represented with a presentation, which offered the opportunity to exchange ideas directly with the female composers.
The meeting, organized by Prof. Vivienne Olive and the Archiv Frau und Musik, provided a deep insight into the contemporary music scene. The works of talented female composers took center stage. Many of these works have found a permanent place in Furore Verlag’s repertoire.
We look back on an impressive event that not only highlighted the importance and diversity of contemporary music, but also promoted collaboration and exchange between female artists. Furore Verlag would like to thank all participants, sponsors and organizers. The passionate atmosphere and the commitment of all those present made this event an inspiring encounter.
