Poems inspire compositions and underlie them like a rich fabric, but the names of the
poets are too often treated as secondary and easily overshadowed by those of the
composers.
In a new compositional gesture, Camille van Lunen writes a short musical introduction
specifically for each song, a kind of signature into which the name of the poet
and the title of the poem are woven. These signatures are integral to the cycle and the
songs should not be performed without them.
