Emilie Mayer
Sonata in D major op. 47 for violoncello and piano (1833)
After the death of her composition teacher Carl Loewe (1796-1869), Emilie Mayer worked on new compositions and dedicated many works to various members of the Loewe Association (a group founded in honor of the deceased composer). This includes her Opus 47, which she dedicated to Baron von Seckendorff from Stargard. Mayer‘s compositional style was originally influenced by the First Viennese School and later developed into the Romantic styles, the emotional music for which Tchaikovsky, for example, is known. This is mainly due to the influence of Adolph Bernhard Marx on her late compositions.
