“Einsam sitz’ ich an des Baches Rand” is the start of text of the early Lied for medium voice and piano that Fanny Hensel composed in March 1822. The short composition has only one verse and is of easy difficulty. The lyricist, Johann Ludwig Casper (1796–1864), was a forensic physician. While he was a student of medicine he wrote the libretti for the first stage works by the young Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
