The Ausflugs-Trio (excursion trio) for two clarinets and piano was a commission for the composition competition „ad libitum“ of the Winfried Böhler Kultur Stiftung and the Network New Music Baden-Württemberg 2019/2020. The aim of the competition was to make available an attractive, artistically high quality and playable repertoire of contemporary music for children, young people or adult amateurs. I decided on a kind of program music. I think when a piece of music has a certain story to tell it is much easier for the children to imagine what to play.
I am happy to be able to open just a small crack in the door to contemporary music for children and young people. In addition to the usual playing options, I use the modern playing techniques and various sound options of the instruments, such as play without a mouthpiece, flap and air noises, slap, cluster, fingernail pizzicato, play on the piano strings, etc.
