With interest and expertise – Hessian Minister of Science and the Arts Angela Dorn visits Furore Verlag in Kassel
“Emilie Mayer’s Symphony in F minor shows originality, experimentation and independence” – in 1850, the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik enthusiastically praised the work of the Mecklenburg-born composer. Her music was already successfully performed during her lifetime. A rather rare exception, if one compares Mayer’s fate with that of other female composers of past centuries. To this day, the rousing scherzo from the aforementioned symphony does not miss its effect, inspired an interesting round of talks in Kassel as a prelude:
Angela Dorn, Hessian Minister of Science and the Arts, visited the Furore Verlag on the occasion of her summer tour in August 2022. Key question: What can politics contribute to ensuring that works by female composers are finally adequately brought to the stages and concert halls in Hesse and beyond?
