Works by Rebecca Clarke, Emilie Mayer and Marina Baranova Emilie Mayer (1812-1873) was the first professional composer, the "female Beethoven" - at a time when no woman in Germany could make a living from composing. Vice-principal of the Berlin Opera Academy and honorary member of the Munich Philharmonic Society, she composed symphonies for large orchestras and a large number of songs and chamber works that were performed throughout Europe. Marina Baranova (*1981) is of Ukrainian origin and impressively sets emotional worlds to music for her fellow citizens in Kharkiv. Situated in Germany, she does her utmost for them, and not only musically.
