In her cantata “Songs of Space”, Marić compiled epitaphs on the graves of Bosnian Bogomils, a community that was fiercely persecuted by the Orthodox and Catholic churches due to their humanistic and enlightened way of life. Accordingly, Marić's work sounds like a psalm from Old Testament times. Dimitry Shostakovich enthused: "One of my fondest memories of Yugoslavia is a performance of Ljubica Marić's Songs of Space.
