Caprice for solo violin is a short character piece celebrating the violin which, as Chagall describes, hovers somewhere up in the clouds, dancing, laughing, crying, cavorting.
From the preface:
The violin accompagnied my whole childhood, full of dreams and play. Caprice is written in this spirit: a myriad of tumbling games interrupted by the questioning look of a child discovering the world around it.
