and Toccatas by 19th and 20th Century
Women Composers
Christina Harnisch (Piano)
SAL 7017
No history of piano music adequately documents the contribution made by women composers to piano literature. Their share is in fact much greater, and their compositional range much wider and much more varied than commonly assumed. To anyone who used
to think that composing women were restricted in their scope to the small format of drawing room-music, miniature genre pieces and dance sketches, this CD will come as a surprise – demonstrating, as it does, that many major contributions are to be found in the genres of the concerto étude and of the toccata.
