The piece is without text, only with vowels. From bottom (u) to top (a): u-i-e-o-a. Each letter emphasizes four notes, for example soprano: u – c1, cis1, d1, dis1, i – e1, f1, fis1, g1, e – gis1, a1, ais1, h1, o – c2, cis2, d2, dis2, a – e2, f2, fis2, g2
It begins entirely diatonic, apparently always from the subtle motif, but it develops more and more away from the simple to the complicated and then back again.
