The composer herself determined these pieces from 1881 for concert performance. Contemporary critics emphasized the suitability of Le Beau’s chamber works not only for the concert hall but also for private public presentation, and mentioned the high standard of „Hausmusik“ which they represent. Not only the skilfulness of answering „any formal demand“ but also the „delicate melodic invention“ were praised. The different sections of the three viola – pieces may be described as follows: „ …melancholic[…], faint mourning […], cantabile […], tender […] lively[…]“. Level of difficulty: medium except of the Polonaise which contains virtuosic elements.
