The Fantasy consists of four movements which merge into one another:
Modéré, Scherzo, Très lent, Final vif
Composed in 1906, the work was premiered in January 1910 at the Théâtre du Châtelet by the Concerts Colonne under the direction of Gabriel Pierné, with Madame Henri
Deblauwe played the piano. As the orchestral score has been lost, only the autograph manuscript (dated 1927) of a version for piano septet, string quartet and two flutes has survived,
from which Yves Henry reconstructed the present orchestral version.
