Luise Greger composed over 100 Lieder and two fairytale operas (Gänseliesel, Teddy). She set the
poems of various artists such as J. W. v. Goethe, Th. Storm, J. Wolf and R. Baumbach to music. She retained her connection with her Pomeranian roots throughout
her life, as evidenced by her many Lieder with Low German lyrics.
She approached the opera genre only in old age: the piano excerpt from her fairytale opera Gänseliesel
is classified as op. 170. The premiere of this work at the Stadttheater Baden-Baden on 10 December 1933 may well have been one of the high points of her life.

During her lifetime, Luise Greger achieved great recognition in Germany and other European countries
as a chamber singer and woman composer of Lieder. In
1930, the “Elsass-Lothringische Bund” (Alsace Lorraine Association) made her an honorary member. During the festivities to mark the Association’s 10th anniversary,
her Hymne an den Elsass (Hymn to Alsace) written for
a four-part choir, was performed at Kassel’s Stadthalle. In 1931 she spent several days in Doorn
(Netherlands) for the commemoration of Empress Augusta Victoria who had died in 1921, where she presented a few of her compositions to the Emperor’s second
wife. In an article to mark her 70th birthday on 27 December 1932, the Kasseler Post newspaper paid tribute to her:
“Her Lieder belong in the repertoire of famous male and female singers. Her melodies have already sounded in Dresden and Leipzig, in Munich’s Odeon, the
Gürzenich Hall in Cologne, and in many other cities, most frequently, of course, at concerts in Kassel garnering great applause for Lulu Rötter amongst others
and, predominantly, in earlier years the woman composer herself, who was also a singer and pianist. […]”
