The text, heavily influenced by his time, is a prayer to the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus. Mel Bonis has given this meditative Christmas music the form of a lullaby. It was published in 1901 in a version for mezzo-soprano and organ. The later orchestral version remained unpublished.
