Parallels for piano and strings (2012) (13‘)
Description
Parallels for piano and strings
World premiere: March 1, 2013 with Mariin Gill, soloist
The starting point for Parallels was the consideration of how the rhetorical stylistic figure of
parallelism (ancient Greek for „juxtaposition“), which is often found in ancient Estonian folk
poetry, could be used in music. Just as a motif is rewritten several times in these old ballads,
the musical material also develops here: a basic structure is constantly „filled“ anew. In this
way, it could also be described tongue-in-cheek as a „song without words“.
