Description

Instrumentation: string quartet
Edition: score and parts
Duration: approx. 12′
Difficulty: medium

The String Quartet in five movements was composed during the fall 2002. It was commissioned by Radio-France and is dedicated to the Castagneri Quartet, who first performed the work in January 2004. The work won the Gold Medal of the 35th Concours International de Composition de l’Académie de Lutèce.
Each movement is built with a particular writing and atmosphere. However, the unity of the piece is deeply thought, and the listener will find connections between the 1st and the last movement and the 2nd and the 4th movement. The 3rd movement, central point of the piece, has a different writing.
