This work was originally written in collaboration with the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra, Australia. Vivienne Olive was
composer in residence in Bundanon, New South Wales in September 2004. It describes the majestic landscape around the
Shoalhaven River in New South Wales. Vivienne Olive has rearranged the work for the cello project of the Hessian State
Youth Orchestra from 29.08. – 01.09.2024 in Schlitz.
An important aspect of this piece is the age o/d musical technique of ‘mirroring’- turning musicalmaterial around, either
upside down or backwards. The river, with its reflections and tides can be seen, and sensed, from many aspects.
