Owing to the popularity of Margaret Brandman’s Warm Winds in Havana contemporary classical suite with jazz and Latin-American influences for Saxophone Quartet (fue 1990), the composer received several requests from members of string ensembles, to arrange this work for strings.
This arrangement is suitable for both string quartet, and/or a larger string orchestra. The work can be performed with the usual string quartet instrumentation: violins 1 and 2, viola and ’cello. Alternatively, an optional violin 3 part is included so that the work can be performed by three violins and ’cello.
There are also optional percussion parts for the first and fourth movements.
