They were composed in 1853 and are dedicated to the violinist Joseph Joachim. They exhibit a fascinating beauty and highly personal musical ideas. The lyrically flourishing character, the close interweaving of the two instruments as well as the stringent formal design make them true gems of their genre.

Das Bach Consort Wien spielt Martines‘ Isacco – Figure del Redentore. Oratorio

Kammeroper Wien Fleischmarkt 24, 1010 Wien, Austria

The oratorio was written in 1781 to a libretto by Pietro Metastasio. Metastasio had written the libretto in 1740. The oratorio was performed with Predieri in Holy Week 1740. This was during Lent. At that time, it was already part of the musical and religious life at the imperial court in Vienna to attend an oratorio concert in the palace chapel during Holy Week. The plot of the oratorio was closely linked to the Passion of Jesus.
