Description

From the preface:

My short farewell piece to the bassoonist Walter Urbach should not only express sadness but also a positive energy and serenity. It starts in the low register of the bassoon, gradually moving from the dark, minor modes and into the brighter major modes, towards the light – and coming to rest at last.

The final notes of the piece spell the name URBACH. The first letters, U and R can be interpreted as the older tone names for Ut and Re (C and D), and the rest of the letters refer, of course to the famous B-A-C-H motive.
