The sonata for piano and cello in A major appearing here in print for the first time was probably composed between 1873 and 1883, when Emilie Mayer created significant number of her chamber
music works. The piece is part of a repertoire of a total of eleven works with this instrumentation, only three of which have appeared in print. Certain stylistic elements suggest that these works were
produced at a later stage in the composer’s career.
