Description
Instrumentation: Piano
Edition: score
Level of difficulty: difficult
The work was written for the pianist Uta Walther.
I have used the title Toccata in the older sense of the word: the piece is free in its form and alternates between motoric, driving sections, elaborate passage work and freer very fast passages that flash by.
The fugue, with its several subjects, was inspired by the text on the various pillars of a wooden sculpture in Brixworth Country Park, England. I often gor for walks there and stand for a long time in front of the sculpture and look at the lake spread out
before it.” Vivienne Olive
