The three dances have been published in 1909 at Demets. They are dedicated to the composer’s three children from her marriage to Albert Domange – Pierre, Jeanne and Edouard. Mel Bonis refers back to the “old style”, which was very popular at that time. In the Bourrée, Mel Bonis follows the traditional form in a fast 2/2 beat, which is initiated by a short one-eighth-off-beat. One long and two short notes are the basis of the elegant pavane. The Sarabande was conducted by the composer on April 26, 1906, in Paris on the occasion of a “marathon concert” by the Société Nationale de Musique.
