The 1979 Oriental Music Festival in Durham inspired Lee to incorporate more of Chinese poetry, history, music, and in particular the ideology and philosophy of ch’in (Chinese zither) music into her compositions. Five works with various instrumentation and creative focus have been completed in a projected eleven-pieces cycle. Voices in Time belongs to them. Commissioned by New Music Concerts (Toronto) & the Canada Council (1992).
